SADC-ECF CEOs AND EXCO MEETING HELD IN WINDHOEK, NAMIBIA

The SADC–ECF CEO’s and EXCO Meeting was recently held in Windhoek, Namibia to consider the SADC-ECF 2019 to 2023 Strategic Plan and resource mobilisation for the implementation of SADC- ECF activities in the region.

Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) Chief Electoral Officer Mr. Chomba Chella attended the meeting from 27th to 1st March, 2018.

In an interview with the Monthly Mr Chella said that the SADC EXCO Meeting was the first to be held after the 19th Annual General Conference of the Electoral Commission’s Forum of the Southern African Development Community (ECF-SADC) which was held in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo in September last year.

“The SADC Region is making preparations to hold elections in various member countries such as the up-coming Presidential Election in the Democratic Republic of Congo in December 2018, Elections planned for Swaziland in September 2018 and Zimbabwe in July, 2018” Mr. Chella said.
Mr Chella added that the next Annual General Meeting of the EFC-SADC will be held in Lesotho in October, 2018.

The ECF-SADC is an independent organisation in which each country in the SADC region is represented by its electoral management body. The ECF- SADC members include the electoral management bodies of 14 SADC countries- namely; Angola, Botswana, DRC, Lesotho, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Seychelles, Swaziland, Tanzania, Zambia, Zanzibar and Zimbabwe.

The Electoral Commissions Forum Executive Committee is one of the structures of the ECF-SADC responsible for implementing decisions by member states. Apart from the president, it consists of seven other members from SADC member states.
