Voter Education
The main function of Voter Education is to manage the Commission’s voter education programmes and activities aimed at improving the knowledge levels and civic participation of citizens in the country.
The Role of Voter Education
- Develop policies and strategies to facilitate effective implementation of voter education programmes in order to enhance the participation of citizens in the electoral process
- Coordinate, monitor and evaluate the implementation of voter education programmes and activities.
- Educate the public on all aspects of the electoral process g. delimitation, voter registration, inspection of the register of voters and poll day activities.
- Manage the Voter Education and Information Resource Centre.
- Coordinate activities of Voter Education School Clubs.
- Conduct needs assessment for voter education and information related to the electoral process.
- Develop materials for use in voter education and information related to citizen’s participation in the electoral process.
Key Issues
Voter education seeks to address the following issues;
- Voter frustration;
- Electoral violence;
- Vote buying and bribery;
- Voter illiteracy levels;
- Custody of the voter’s card;
- Misconceptions regarding election results management; and
- Inadequate knowledge on the electoral process.

Outreach Strategies
The following strategies are used to disseminate voter education and information;
- Face to face discussion meetings
- Pre-arranged community meetings
- Theatre performances
- Dissemination of Information, Education and Communication materials in English and local languages
- Use of information technology
