Shortlisting for Masaiti Poll Staff Concluded

SHORTLISTING FOR MASAITI POLL STAFF CONCLUDED

Shortlisting of Poll Staff who will conduct the Masaiti District Council Chairperson’s by-elections has been concluded. The names of the shortlisted candidates have since been published at the Masaiti District Council.

Senior Electoral Officer, Mr. Zachariah Kunda told the Weekly that Masaiti District had more than one thousand (1000) applications out of which only 330 where shortlisted.

Mr. Kunda said part of the criteria used to select the poll staff was experience in previous elections. 

After selection of  the poll staff, the Council is required to display the candidates on the noticeboard for scrutiny by stakeholders and the general public. This is intended to give an opportunity to members of the public to object to any candidate/s who for any reason may be ineligible to participate in the conduct of an election.

Mr. Kunda has however told the Weekly that so far no objection has been made against any of the shortlisted candidates.

Mr. Kunda further informed the Weekly that training for the poll staff will be conducted on Friday 21st and Saturday 22nd April 2017. He said the training will be conducted at Chiwala Technical and Masaiti Boarding Secondary Schools. 

The by-election is expected to take place on the 25th of April, 2017.
