Notice is hereby given to the general public that the Electoral Commission of Zambia has prescribed Thursday, 19th September, 2024 as the date on which to hold the Council Chairperson by-election in Kawambwa District of Luapula Province and three (3) ward by-elections in Lukanga Ward of Kabwe District in Central Province, Kabalenga Ward in Mwansabombwe District of Luapula Province and Chidi Ward of Zimba District in Southern Province.
The polls will take place from 06:00 hours to 18:00 hours on Thursday, 19th September, 2024.
Nominations for the said by-election will be conducted on Tuesday, 20th August, 2024. Campaign period commences on Wednesday, 21st August, 2024 and will end at 18:00 hours on Wednesday, 18th September, 2024.
The by-election in Kawambwa has arisen due to the conviction by the Courts of Law of the Kawambwa District Council Chairperson Mr. Kalumba Chifumbe of the Patriotic Front on 22nd July, 2024.
The vacancies in the three wards are due to a conviction, resignation and death. Aspiring candidates in the by-elections should lodge completed and attested statutory declaration and nomination papers subscribed before a Magistrate, Local Court Magistrate, Head of a Government Primary or Secondary School, Principal of a College, Commissioner for Oaths, Election Officer or returning officer on Tuesday, 20th August, 2024 between 09:00 hours and 15:00 hours.
