The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) is pleased to announce its leadership role in the upcoming Electoral Commissions Forum of the Southern African Development Community (ECF-SADC) Election Observation Mission (EOM) to observe the South African National and Provincial elections set for 29th May, 2024.
The ECF-SADC has appointed ECZ Chairperson, Mrs. Mwangala Zaloumis SC, as delegation leader of the ECF-SADC Observation Mission to South Africa and she will be deputized by her counterpart, the Hon Justice Jacobs C.S. Mwambegele, Chairperson, of the Independent National Electoral Commission of the United Republic of Tanzania.
The ECF-SADC is an independent organization comprising Electoral Management Bodies (EMBs) of SADC member states.
ECF-SADC provides an election observation approach of peer review, sharing reflections, observations and recommendations with the Commission conducting elections. The Forum strives to assist fellow Election Management Bodies (EMBs) to identify areas requiring strengthening, improvement in elections management and opportunities for sharing best practices and lessons learned.
Going into the election, the ECF-SADC observation mission will focus on assessing various aspects of the electoral process, including voter registration, campaigning, polling, and the overall electoral environment.
The ECZ acknowledges the trust placed in it by the ECF-SADC to lead this important mission, and reaffirms its commitment to upholding the principles of impartiality, transparency, and professionalism throughout the observation process. The Commission further extends its gratitude to all stakeholders involved in facilitating the EOM and expresses confidence in a successful mission that contributes to the promotion of credible elections in South Africa and across the SADC region.
