Voter Education Post-Election Reviews Completed

The Commission has completed it’s 2016 Voter Education Post Election Review Workshops which took place from 23rd January to 3rd March 2017 in various locations.
The review workshops which were conducted with the support of the UNDP Electoral Support Project with funding from EU, UKAid, Irish Aid and USAID were held in three phases.
The first stage of the review took place from 23rd to 24th January, 2017 in Lusaka.
15 Commission staff participated in the process which focused on finalisation and preparation of presentations on the 2016 General Elections and Referendum Voter Education Report.
The process included preparation of de-brief sessions for stage two of the review which would be implemented after the first stage was completed.
The first stage identified problematic areas and issues which were to be addressed with District Voter Education Coordinators (DVEC) in the second stage.
This stage also culminated into the identification of Voter Education Facilitators (VEF) for Focus Group Discussions.
The second stage of the review workshop took place in Lusaka from 30th January to 3rd February 2017.
10 participants comprising District Committee members (Chairpersons, Coordinators and Trainers) attended the meeting.
The meeting reviewed recruitment, training, deployment and performance of VEF´s and focused on monitoring and checking coordination challenges. The meeting further reviewed voter education materials and investigated causes of voter apathy and rejected ballot papers. The meeting also verified and validated district voter education reports.
The third and final stage of the review took place from 6th February to 3rd March, 2017. This phase was focused on implementation and assessment of the effectiveness of the voter education campaigns in the field.
In total, 135 VEF´s participated in the process which was conducted across the 10 provinces.
