The Electoral Commission of Zambia set Thursday, 30th September, 2021 as the date on which to conduct fresh nominations for the said elections as a result of death of aspiring candidates in the affected Constituency, districts and wards before the 12th August, 2021 polls.
The Commission is engaging participating political parties and candidates to draw the campaign timetables across the affected constituency, districts and wards.
The Commission wishes to remind stakeholders that these elections are being held in a very unusual period amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. Stakeholders are therefore expected to adhere to the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) developed by the Technical Committee on mainstreaming of COVID-19 prevention measures in the 2021 election calendar
The Commission further reminds political stakeholders to adhere to the Electoral Code of Conduct as they conduct campaigns. Non-adherence to the Electoral Code of Conduct will attract sanctions accordingly.
The Commission would like to encourage all political players to avoid violence, be tolerant and promote coexistence as these are some of the key ingredients of a maturing democracy and the conduct of peaceful elections.
The Commission wishes to remind all political players that violence undermines the credibility of an election and calls on the leadership to prevail over their supporters
