PRESS BRIEFING BY THE CHIEF ELECTORAL OFFICER, MS. PRISCILLA ISAAC
21:00 HOURS AT MULUNGUSHI INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE CENTRE ON 11TH AUGUST 2016
Accredited Monitors and Observers,
Members of the Press,
Distinguished Ladies and Gentlemen,
I welcome you all to the last briefing at the National Election Results Centre for today 11th August 2016.
Closing of Polling stations
A number of polling stations had not closed by 18:00 hours as people were still in the queues.
Like alluded to earlier, all polling stations that opened late are expected to compensate for the lost time before these polling stations were opened.
Turn Out
The Commission would like to commend the electorate for turning out in large numbers during this election and conducting themselves in a peaceful manner even with the long queues.
Vote Counting
Reports reaching the Commission indicate that counting has started in most polling stations across the country. The Commission would like to appeal to political party leaders, their agents and observers to wait patiently until the whole process is completed.
The Commission further wishes to inform the electorate that full results are not expected until all ballots have been counted.
Poll Staff
The Commission would like to thank all staff who are still working to ensure that this election is a success. The Commission further thanks the electorate participating actively in this election.
Conclusion
The Commission continues to call for calm and peace until the whole process is concluded.
The Next briefing will be tomorrow at 10:00 hours
