The training of Poll Staff in Solwezi started today Saturday, 17 November, 2018. One hundred and fifty (150) Poll Staff are being trained in preparation for the Tumvwanganai Ward by-election scheduled for 20th November, 2018.
Solwezi District Electoral Officer Mr. Mbulo Seke officially opened the training, which is being held at Solwezi College of Education.
Mr. Seke encouraged the poll staff to avoid being biased in their behaviour and conduct as they do their work. He also encouraged the poll staff to be attentive during the training so that they don’t miss vital information to enable them conduct themselves correctly.
Mr. Seke said that as DEO, he hoped that the election would be conducted smoothly to ensure that all stakeholders are satisfied.
The training for Poll Staff (Presiding Officers, Assistant Presiding Officers and Ushers) is conducted by District Election Trainers.
A Presiding Officer is a person appointed by The Commission to be in charge of a Polling Station, an Assistant Presiding Officer is an Officer responsible for a polling stream in a polling station and answerable to a Presiding Officer, Ushers are Poll Staff stationed at Polling stations with multiple streams and they direct voters to appropriate streams.
The training comes ahead of forthcoming polls for office of Council Chairperson in Lupososhi District, Parliamentary by-election in Mangango Constituency, Kaoma District and polls to take place on the same date in five (5) Local Government by-elections in Chisanga Ward of Ngabwe District, Lusinde Ward of Petauke District, Nkhanka Ward in Chama District, Tumvwanganai Ward of Solwezi District and Sipuma Ward of Shang’ombo District.
