ECZ LAUNCHES CONTINUOUS REGISTRATION OF VOTERS IN MONGU DISTRICT

The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has today launched Continuous Registration of Voters in Mongu District.

ECZ Commissioner, Maj. Gen. Vincent Mukanda in his speech said the launch and commencement of Continuous Registration of Voters (CRV) in Mongu and other provincial centres signifies an important milestone in the history and operations of the Electoral Commission of Zambia.

Maj. Gen. Mukanda has since called on eligible Zambian citizens in Western Province to register as voters.

“The Commission is therefore calling on all eligible Zambian Citizens in Western Province who are 18 years and above, and in possession of a Green National Registration Card to visit this registration centre and register as voters,” Maj. Gen. Mukanda urged.

He explained that some of the services that would be offered to the general public include; new registrations, transfers between polling stations, replacement of lost, destroyed, defaced and damaged voters cards, change of names, removal of deceased voters from the register among others.

The exercise commenced on 1st June, 2022 in nine provincial centres namely; Chinsali, Chipata, Choma, Kabwe, Kasama, Lusaka, Mansa, Ndola, and Solwezi. In Mongu however, the launch of the CRV was rescheduled due to the Lumbo Ward by-election which took place on 30th June, 2022.

The Commissioner said the rescheduling of the commencement of CRV in Mongu was in line with section 12(2) of the Electoral Process Act No. 35 of 2016.

The launch was witnessed by political party representatives, District Voter Education Committee members, representatives from Civil Society Organisations. The Provincial Electoral Officer, Mr Nixon Nkwampu, the District Electoral Officer Mr Oliver Muuka and a team from ECZ were in attendance.
