Arrival and Verification of ballot papers for By Elections to be held 5th June, 2018

Ballot papers and posters for the Chilanga Parliamentary and six (6) Local Government by-elections arrived from Dubai, on the United Arab Emirates flight at the Kenneth Kaunda International Airport in Lusaka on Sunday, 20th May, 2018. The by-Elections are scheduled to take place on 5th June, 2018.

Political Parties participating in the by-elections were invited to witness the arrival of the ballot papers at the Kenneth Kaunda International airport.

The Political Party representatives who witnessed the arrival of the ballot papers were United Party for National Development (UPND) Mr. Stephen Kambukwe and UPND Official Mr. Muleya Hachiinda, Patriotic Front (PF) Elections Member Ms Annette Malulu, PF Elections Chair Mr Brian Katunansa and PF National Elections member, Brenda Chisoba, United Prosperous and Peaceful Zambia (UPPZ) Youth President Madalisto Musukwa and UPPZ Committee Member Easter Chanda and Third Liberation Movement (3RDLM) Lackson Phiri, National Democratic Congress (NDC) Provincial Chairman Mr Patrick Phiri and District Chairman Mr Friday Kasoma.
The by-elections will be conducted in Chilanga Constituency of Chilanga District and six (6) local government wards namely, Mwense, Kasama, Chienge, Sinda and Nyimba districts.

The verification of the ballot papers with participating Political Parties took place at the Elections House. The media was also invited to witness the arrival and the verification process.

The verification process which was guided by the staff of the Commission involves checking the packing schedule and the correctness of the details on the ballot papers.

The political party representatives who witnessed the verification of ballot papers were United Party for National Development (UPND) Mr. Stephen Kambukwe, Patriotic Front (PF) Chairman Elections Mr. Brian Katunansa, PF Elections members Jason Mulaisho, Annette Malulu and PF National Elections member, Brenda Chisoba, National Democratic Congress (NDC) Provincial Chairman Mr. Patrick Phiri and District Chairman Mr Friday Kasoma, United Prosperous and Peaceful Zambia (UPPZ) National Youth President Madalistso Musukwa, National restoration Party (NAREP) candidate Mr. Charlie Malabuka, NAREP Provincial Chairperson Mr. Kennedy Chipasha and NAREP District Chairperson Mr. Kennedy Mulenga.

The vacancy in Chilanga Constituency occurred following the conviction of the incumbent Member of Parliament Mr. Keith Mukata by the High Court. The vacancies in the 6 wards have occurred as a result of death and resignations.
