ECZ Trains Poll Staff Ahead Of 14th September, 2017 By-Elections

The Commission today 10th September, 2017 commences the two (2) day training in four (4) districts for Poll Staff who include Presiding Officers, Assistant Presiding Officers and Ushers.

150 participants are expected to participate in the trainings in each District and Ward where the trainings will be held. The training comes ahead of forthcoming polls on 14th September, 2017 to be held in four (4) districts and eight (8) wards.

The districts in which the elections will be held are Lunte in Northern Province, Kanchibiya and Lavushimanda Districts in Muchinga Province, Itezhi Tezhi in Central Province while the (8) Local Government Wards in which the elections will be held are Chililalila, Chitwi, Luansobe, Luntomfwe, Libonda, Mpidi Kakonga, Chimanja and Mabinga.

In Lunte, Kanchibiya and Itezhi Tezhi districts, the training is being held ahead of the forthcoming Council Chairperson Elections while the eight Local Government Wards will be holding elections for Councillors.

Poll Staff will be trained in Poll-day procedures and guidelines of the electoral code of conduct in addition to the principles of Non-partisanship, objectivity, integrity and transparency which the Commission ascribes to.

Nominations of candidates to stand in the forthcoming polls were filed on 15th August, 2017.

The by-election in Itezhi Tezhi, district has been necessitated following the death of the incumbent Council Chairperson.

The creation of Kanchibiya, Lavushimanda and Lunte districts necessitated the need for Council Chairpersons’ elections in the said districts. The vacancies in Chililalila, Chitwi, Luansobe, Luntomfwe, Libonda, Mpidi Kakonga, Chimanja and Mabinga wards are as a result of deaths and resignations of incumbent Councillors.
