ECZ Public Relations Department Conducts Post-Election Review Workshop

The Commission’s Public Relations Department conducted a review workshop from 20th to 24th February 2016 at Grand Palace Hotel in Lusaka. The purpose of the workshop which was supported by the UNDP with funding from EU, UKAid, Irish Aid and USAID was to review the department’s activities before, during and after the 2016 General Elections and Referendum.

The Commission’s Public Relations Department conducted a review workshop from 20th to 24th February 2017 at Grand Palace Hotel in Lusaka. The purpose of the workshop which was supported by the UNDP with funding from EU, UKAid, Irish Aid and USAID was to review the department’s activities before, during and after the 2016 General Elections and Referendum.

Some of the workshops objectives were to determine the effectiveness of the media training which was conducted before the 2016 general elections and the referendum.

The workshop also analysed media coverage of the electoral process including online communication before, during and after 2016 general elections. The workshop also made an assessment of effectiveness of stakeholder interaction during the elections period.

The workshop also further reviewed some post-election reports compiled by various stakeholders such as Media Institute of Southern Africa (MISA) Zambia, Christian Churches Monitoring Group (CCMG), Non-Governmental Organisations Coordinating Council (NGOCC).

The overall performance of the Public Relations department before, during and after elections was also reviewed.

The workshop was based on a participatory action research methodology with the application of the ‘Problem-Solution Tree. The Problem – Solution tree looks at the problems faced during the period under review, the root causes of the problems, their effects and solutions.

Participants to the review workshop included ECZ staff, trainers drawn from various institutions, Media Practitioners and Consultants.

The Commission conducts reviews after every major election to assess the effectiveness of the activities undertaken and its performance.
