Zambian citizen;
- in
possession of a Green National
Registration Card (NRC)
- Aged
18 years and above and those will
attain 18 years on or before 31st
July 2006 should apply for
Registration
WHO
CONDUCTS VOTER
REGISTRATION?
Registration Officers are usually teachers
or civil servants who are employed by the
Commission on part time basis to conduct
registration of voters in all Registration
Centres/Polling Districts.

COMMISSION
CONSULTATIVE MEETINGS WITH POLITICAL
PARTIES-14th -16th
September
Following
the engagement of a new Service Provider
for Voter Registration and in view of the
commencement of the 2006 voter
registration exercise, the Commission
decided to hold Consultative meetings with
political parties on 14th ,15th
and 16th September 2005.The
meetings which were held at the Commission
were attended by members of the Commission
and all Heads of departments. The forums
provided an opportunity for the political
parties to formally meet and interact with
the newly appointed members of the
Commission. During the meetings the
parties were given an opportunity to ask
questions regarding voter registration and
other electoral issues.

MEDIA
Workshop- 7th October, 2005
A
half-day media workshop for the press was
held on 7th October 2005 at
Intercontinental Hotel aimed at
sensitising the media on the new voter
registration process. The workshop also
highlighted some of the major activities
the Commission would embark on for the
2006 elections. The workshop which was
attended by Commission members and some
members of staff was officially opened by
Electoral Commission Chairperson Justice
Irene Mambilima.
The workshop was attended by freelance
journalists and 15 media organisations as
listed below;

REGISTRATION
OF VOTERS EXERCISE & DELIMITATION
OF POLLING DISTRICTS & WARDS
IN
EXERCISE of
the powers contained in Regulation 10 of
the Electoral (Registration of Voters)
Regulation as amended by the Electoral
(Registration of Voters) (Amendment)
Regulation Statutory Instrument No. 55 of
2001, NOTICE is hereby given that the
Registration exercise will be conducted in
every polling district throughout the
Republic of Zambia from 31st
October 2005 to 20th
November 2005, both dates inclusive.
The registration of voters will be
conducted from 0800 hours to 1700 hours
daily weekends inclusive.

THE
STATUS OF CIVIC AND VOTER EDUCATION
IN
ZAMBIA
INTRODUCTION
The
Electoral Commission of Zambia under
Article 76 of the Constitution has the
following Constitutional functions;
-
To
supervise the registration of voters
and review the voters registers/roll
-
To
conduct the Presidential and
Parliamentary elections; and
-
To
review the boundaries of the
constituencies into which Zambia is
divided for the purpose of election to
the National Assembly.
