(1) This Act may be cited as the Local
Government Elections Short title Act.
(2)
Subject to subsection (3), the provisions of
this Act shall not apply in relation to any
election held before the expiry of the interim
period and the law in force immediately prior
to the commencement of this Act relating to
elections to a council shall continue to apply
in relation to such elections until the expiry
of the interim period.
(3)
Nothing in this section shall be construed as
to prohibit the making of any statutory
instrument under this Act during the interim
period for the purpose of regulating the
conduct of any election fol- lowing the expiry
of the interim period or providing for the
division of the areas of councils into wards
and prescribing the boundaries of such wards
for the purpose of any election following the
expiry of the interim period.
